The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has left the door open for the Goan clubs to return to the I-League, a year after they decided to pull out.

Goan giants Salgaocar, Dempo SC and Sporting Club de Goa pulled out of the I-League 2016-17 season as a sign of protest against AIFF's restructuring of Indian Football, where ISL was given the priority according to the clubs.

Meanwhile, AIFF President Praful Patel, who will be the Guest of Honour at Dempo SC's Golden Jubilee celebrations, will likely be meeting the Goan clubs' representatives, asking them to return to the I-League.

Speaking to the TOI, Praful Patel showcased his willingness to bring back the Goan giants in the top-tier of Indian Football.

"I would be happy to see them back. I would only say that it's unfortunate that the Goan teams pulled out. They should come back to the I-League," he said.

"We do not have anything against any club. I would be happy to see them back. Whether it's the ISL or the I-League, we need representation from across the country. I am happy to note the contribution of Goa and Kolkata," Patel said to TOI.

However, the Goan clubs are likely to stick to their stance unless the Federation provides them with a clear roadmap for the future, which by all means seems highly unlikely.
