During the 90s IM Vijayan established himself as a star plying his trade in the Kolkata Maidan.

Now in 2017, it is time to pass the baton to his son-in-law Abdul Adil, who has come calling from Kerala to follow the footsteps of his father-in-law.

23-year-old Adil, who tied the knot with the former India striker's daughter Archana, had his first trials at the East Bengal ground on Wednesday. Unlike his father-in-law, Adil is a defender whose preferred position is that of a centre-back.

"I have heard from my father-in-law and many others that you must play in Kolkata if you wish to establish himself as a footballer. This is why I've come here and will hopefully be able to get selected," Adil said after practice.

East Bengal have already signed two talented Kerala lads Mirshad Michu and Jobi Justin this season, as per the advice of IM Vijayan. With all the hype surrounding his arrival, it will be interesting to see if Adil too can make the cut.
