Uncertainty Looms Over Jose Molina's Future With Atletico De Kolkata
Atletico de Kolkata’s principal owner Sanjib Goenka admitted to having no idea as to whether Jose Molina would continue to be his team’s coach. In an interaction with a leading Bengali daily Anadabazar Patrika, the industrialist said, “ I am very pleased with his (Molina’s) work. He has turned us into champions and we would like to extend his contract. However, this is a professional world and if he does not want to continue here, I would understand.”
The Kolkata-based outfit, which has won the Indian Super League twice in 3 seasons, has a cult following in the state of Bengal. Antonio Lopez Habas, who was the mastermind behind their triumph in the inaugural season, left at the beginning of the last one after FC Pune City offered him a bumper deal. As such, Goenka is weary of over expecting. In his words,” It might happen that Molina ends up asking much more than what we can give him. So we might have to let him go. As such, we still do not know if the league will be of 3 months or 8, so it is hard to say anything with absolute certainty till at least June.”
It seems a lot will decide on the possible merger or an adopted league system, which might also see heavyweight I-League clubs participating. Either way, it is unlikely that Habas will return in case Molina leaves.
