U-18 I-League : Mohun Bagan Banned For Fielding Overage Player
Mohun Bagan U-18 team has been banned from the U-18 I-League after the club was found guilty of fielding an overage player during the zonal phase of the tournament.
It is learnt that centre back Subhankar Adhikary, who featured in the opening two games against Southern Samity and SAI, is the one accused of being overage.
SAI officials had launched an official complaint along with substantial proof of Adhikary being overage to AIFF- resulting in Adhikary being summoned by the AIFF disciplinary committee for a medical test in Delhi.
Despite several notices, the player refused to show up. AIFF had to issue a showcause notice to Bagan but received no communication from Mohun Bagan's end.
Thus AIFF disciplinary committee decided to debar Bagan from participating in the youth league.
Furthermore, Bagan has been slapped with a fine of Rs 1 lac, while Adhikary has been fined Rs 40,000 along with a 6 match suspension.
Mohun Bagan had topped the Kolkata Zone of the U-18 League with 23 points from 10 matches.
With Bagan banned, United SC will be replacing them as the second team from the Kolkata zone along with Kingfisher East Bengal.
