East Bengal has officially confirmed the signing of former Mohun Bagan captain Katsumi Yusa for the upcoming I-League season.

The club announced the transfer on social media and the news was hit with a wall of shock and surprise by football fans around the nation.

The 29-year-old Japanese midfielder becomes East Bengal’s fourth foreign signing to sign for the Red & Gold Brigade after Willis Plaza, Carlyle Mitchell & Al Amna.

Yusa joined the Mariners in the 2013-14 season from ONGC and has been instrumental in Bagan’s success in the recent years. He scored 4 and assisted another 4 for Bagan in the 2016-17 edition of the I-League, proving to be a menace for opposition sides.

Katsumi, who was on the radar of a few ISL teams, will no doubt be a terrific addition to Khalid Jamil’s team.

Having secured Yusa’s signature, East Bengal has now completed their quota of Asian players for the I-League.
