For the first time in Indian footballing history, a security team will be flying down from England to test safety measures installed for the fans in the Yuba Bharati Stadium in Kolkata.
“Sports Ground Safety Authority” is coming to the country on the 19th and 20th of March to review security measures undertaken for the supporters who will be coming to the see the Under 17 World Cup games in October of this year. The internationally recognised organization will be visiting all the six venues, namely Kochi, Delhi, Goa, Guwahati, Navi Mumbai and Kolkata.
After a thorough examination of the stadiums, they will recommend safety measures like where dressing rooms should be placed, the distance between the field and the stands, barricades between the stands, width of the passages and so on. The entire exercise has been commissioned by UEFA and AFC, and may even see a reduction in the of number of seats in some of the galleries, including the ones at Yuba Bharati Krirangan.
It is good to see the administration take such ground-breaking steps to take care of the travelling fans, and one hopes their suggestions will be executed as soon as possible. The FIFA Under 17 World Cup kicks off from 6th October 2017.
