In light of the debacle surrounding Abinash Ruidas and East Bengal, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has formed a new committee to deal with the pertaining issue of ownership of the player. The committee consists of members of the Disciplinary Committee, Player Status Committee and a couple of lawyers. It is headed by Mr. Ushanath Banerjee.

Ruidas had earlier claimed that the club had forged his signature and was forcing him to play for another two years. However, the club officials claimed that his token was still owned by them, so there was no way in which he could go play for another team. It is important to note that the Budge Budge boy has been drafted by Mumbai FC for next season’s Indian Super League.

Under such circumstances, the governing body of football in West Bengal, Indian Football Association (IFA) had instructed the player to feature for East Bengal as per his contract, but their decision was overruled by the All India Football Federation claiming that they had no right to pass judgment on such issues.

As such, a lot of friction and ill-will has been generated between the two organizing bodies, which ultimately led to the foundation of this new committee. The new committee will meet on the 3rd of August in New Delhi to take a final call on the Ruidas situation.

Meanwhile, East Bengal has already begun their pre-season in full flow and have set lofty targets for the next campaign. All their overseas players have arrived in the city and have begun practice with the main squad.
