Preview: Shillong Lajong vs Mumbai FC

Seventh-placed Shillong Lajong and 5th placed Mumbai FC will lock horns at the JN Stadium, Shillong on Saturday.


Previous Games:
Shillong Lajong gathered their first points of the season beating Minerva Punjab in a home match last week. Visitors Mumbai meanwhile, will have to put behind their disappointing 1-0 loss to Aizawl FC in a home encounter when they take the pitch tomorrow.


Traveling & Preparations:
Mumbai reached Shillong on January 25. They have had a couple of training sessions to acclimatize with the conditions.


Team Morale:
Shillong Lajong are on a high after winning their first match of the season last week. The side is also buoyed by the fact that its home record has been something to be proud of since the last couple of seasons. Mumbai, meanwhile, have taken a hit in the last two games and have to lift themselves up for Saturday’s encounter.


Manager quotes:

SLFC coach Thangboi Singto alerted his boys not to repeat the second half sloppiness against better-equipped Mumbai FC.

Referring to the tie against Minerva Punjab he said, “If we are to take home full points from the Mumbai encounter, they we have to be on their toes for full 90 minutes.”


“We all know what Santosh Kashyap is capable of. Mumbai will a tough opponent to deal with but Lajong would do its best to exploit the home advantage.”

Meanwhile, Mumbai coach Kashyap said Shillong is the toughest place for an away side.

Kashyap brushed aside talks of pressure on his side stating “You cannot win all the matches.”

He admitted that his side needs to improve on their finishing.



On Saturday, Lajong will miss out on the services Dan Ignat and Zodingliana while Mumbai will have to manage without Kimkima and Pratesh Shirodkar.
