Preview: Chennai City vs Aizawl FC
Misfiring Chennai City FC take on a confident Aizawl FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai in the fifth round of the I-League today.
Previous games: The home side put in a spirited performance in their last outing against Mohun Bagan at their own stadium, but were sank by a late winner from the effervescent Sony Norde. The North Easterners ran out 1-0 winners to Mumbai City FC in their previous match, and are still unbeaten in the league.
Travelling: The away side will make the 2 and a half hour long flight journey from Mumbai to Chennai.
Team Morale: Chennai, who are making their bow in the league this season, are still coming to terms with the pressure and the nature of it. They have 1 point from their 4 matches, and will look to kickstart their campaign against the Highlanders. Aizawl, on the other hand, are the surprise packages this campaign and are breathing down on East Bengal’s neck in the league table. They will look to keep the momentum going with another 3 points on the bounce.
"I've seen all their matches that were telecast. They played good football. Strong defensively, experienced players. Good players and they have mature senior Indian players. It will not be an easy game," said Khalid Jamil, the Aizawl FC coach regarding his opponents. Chennai City coach Robin Charles Raja, on the other hand, admitted that scoring goals have been a concern for his side. "With Khalid's experience, they (Aizawl) look a threat. We will definitely do well. Goals are a problem and we need them. But we are getting better," he added.
Preparations/Area Of Concern:
It has transpired that captain Dharamraj Ravanan may not be able to play for the South Indian side, as he still awaits a nod from the medical team. That might be the cause of a massive headache for Charles Raja. Aizawl, on the other hand, have a fully fit team and will be looking to unleash it on the competition-debutants.
