Mohun Bagan star winger Sony Norde is not fully fit, despite starting in the Mariners’ 0-0 draw against Mumbai FC at the Cooperage in Mumbai, on Wednesday. The Haiti international has been suffering from a knee

he Haiti international has been suffering from a knee injury, and was said to be doubtful for the Mumbai game. However, much to the relief of the travelling Green and Maroon fans, their star man took his usual place on the left flank, during kickoff.

When asked about Norde's fitness, though, Mohun Bagan gaffer Sanjoy Sen gave an answer that no Bagan fan wants to hear at this stage of the season. “Sony was 50-50 yesterday. He had a meeting with the doctor here,” said Sen, who went on to reveal that Norde got a last minute green signal from the doctor. “He is not 100 per cent. But he tried his level best.”

The goalless draw against Mumbai FC marked the second consecutive match in which the Mariners have failed to score.

However, Sen completely waved off suggestions that the goals are drying up for his side. “God knows how Barcelona conceded four goals,” Sen exclaimed with a sarcastic smile, when quizzed about Mohun Bagan’s lack of goals.

“This is very good for Indian football. The competition is coming from the so-called smaller teams,” he concluded.
