Mohun Bagan have finally parted ways with Australian defensive midfielder Diogo Ferreira citing “family issues”.

“The player had requested the club to release him from his contractual obligations citing family issues. The club obliged to his request and have signed the agreement of termination today,” Mohun Bagan said in a statement.

However, Diogo's failure to adapt to the Indian conditions might be the real reason why both parties agreed to part ways.

With Yuta Kinowaki out for a month and Diogo released, Mohun Bagan are now on the lookout for a new midfielder. According to sources close to the club, Bagan coach Sanjoy Sen has expressed his desire to rope in former Bengaluru FC midfielder Cameron Watson.

The 30-year-old Australian was a key cog in Bengaluru FC's midfield last season, having a passing accuracy of 88% and a tackle success rate of 59%.

Ironically it was Watson who advised Diogo Ferreira to join Mohun Bagan at the start of the season since both of them are good buddies off the pitch.

Watson last played for Indonesian club Madura United and is currently a free player.
