According to various reports, officials from East Bengal and Mohun Bagan are traveling to Delhi to meet the Secretary of the All India Football Federation, Mr. Kushal Das next Monday to discuss the prospects of them joining the Indian Super League. The Red and Gold Brigade has picked up the bidding documents, but the Mariners are yet to do the same.

While speaking to leading Bengali daily Anandabazar Patrika, East Bengal official Mr. Debabrata Sarkar said,” It doesn’t matter who is picking up the documents as we are both going to sit and discuss. Mohun Bagan and East Bengal must take a unified decision on this.” The debacle around making the ISL the top-tier league in the country is being hotly debated across the nation for almost a month now, but no conclusion has been reached so far. If they agree to play, the Kolkata giants will have to shift out of the city for the next 2 years at least: East Bengal will have to play from Siliguri while Mohun Bagan will have to be content with Durgapur.

Furthermore, it has come to light that Mohun Bagan have written a letter to the AIFF Secretary stating that there is no way his club would pay the 15 crore rupees required as participation fees or play out of Durgapur. Mr. Bose also stated that Bagan will only take a call after the scheduled meeting on 22nd May.

As of now, such conditions look untenable for both the clubs but you can never be dead certain of something in Indian football.
