Jamshedpur FC handed ATK their third loss in a row as they grinded a narrow 0-1 win over the defending champions in the ongoing ISL clash at Salt Lake Stadium on Sunday(28, January).

Trindade Goncalves scored the only goal of the game in the 65th minute when he converted from the spot.

Going into the game ATK and Jamshedpur boasted two of the strongest defenses of ISL 2017/18 having kept 5 clean sheets each. As a result, the match turned into a cagey affair in the opening minutes.

Both sides needed a win to stay alive in the competition but that desire never quite replicated in their game. It was, however, Jamshedpur who looked the better of the two sides. In the 12th minute Trindade Goncalves almost found the top corner from a long ranger outside the box.

Nigerian Izu Azuka's attempt too narrowly missed the target near the half-hour mark as Jamshedpur FC piled on the pressure on ATK.

As for ATK, it was former Aizawl FC player Jayesh Rane who was their main attacking outlet.

Jamshedpur could have taken the lead in the 45th minute through Azuka, but the goal was disallowed. Wellington Priori had a go from outside the box and forced a save from Debjit Majumder. A lurking Izu Azuka was at hand to tap the rebound home but the linesman had raised his flag.

At halftime the scoreline read 0-0.

Jamshedpur resumed the second half from exactly where they left off. They could have drawn first blood in the 56th minute but Trindade missed a free header.

Trindade did make amends in the 65th minute when he converted a penalty in the 65th minute after being brought down in the box by Hitesh Sharma, to give Jamshedpur FC the lead.

Even after going a goal down ATK failed to throw bodies upfront and create openings. Their long ball strategy was easily dealt with by the Jamshedpur FC defence.

An uneventful final quarter of the match meant that the scoreline remained unchanged at full time.

With the help of this win, Jamshedpur climbed to the 5th spot with 19 points from 13 games, while ATK remained at the 8th position with 12 points from as many games.
