Mohun Bagan Academy edged past Minerva Punjab FC 1-0 in the ongoing IFA Shield Trophy at Mohun Bagan Stadium, Kolkata today.

The match started off with high intensity from both teams as both teams tried to build up attacks and get the opening goal. In the 5th minute, Mohun Bagan forward made his way into the box and fired a shot from close range which was thwarted off by a great save from Minerva's alert custodian, Shamsher Singh. Soon after in the 9th Minute, Minerva's PK Mung combined beautifully with Captain Krishna Pandit whose shot missed the post by inches. Players of both teams had to face the searing heat and humidity and the game turned scrappy with both teams trying to disrupt each other's play. In the 28th minute, Minerva again came close to scoring as Vinod's beautiful cross landed perfectly for PK Mung who failed to score from the free header. In the 35th minute, Mohun Bagan struck back with a counter attack making the score 1-0 in favour of the home team through L.Lotha. The teams went into halftime with Mohun Bagan leading 1-0.

The second half saw more intent from Minerva Colts who tried to string together attack after attack but just could not get the ball into the goal. The Mohun Bagan Colts were happy to sit back and defend their lead and wait to strike at the opportune moment. In the 50th minute, Krishna Pandit again came close to scoring when he ran past two Mohan Bagan defenders but again lacked the finishing touch. As the game progressed there were lot of stoppages as Mohun Bagan boys tried to run down the clock. 6 minutes of extra time were given in lieu of the stoppages but Minerva could not make a comeback despite moments of brilliance.

Minerva next take on Tata Football Academy at Howrah Stadium on 30th May at 3.30 PM.
