I-League champions Aizawl FC are against increasing the number of foreign players in the I-League, even though a few other teams have requested it to AIFF.

Representatives of the I-League clubs are set to meet with the All India Football Federation officials in New Delhi on Thursday afternoon where they would eventually clear the dark clouds of uncertainty regarding the status of the I-League.

Speaking to TOI, Aizawl FC President, Robert Royte expressed that fewer foreigners in the I-League would help promote Indian football.

“We should promote Indian football. What's the point of taking more foreigners? Playing two leagues simultaneously will also generate more employment for players as clubs will have to develop or scout players on their own. They just can't take players from the ISL sides after the ISL season is over. It will also give more Indian players the chance to play at the top level," he said, speaking to TOI.

Royte also added that he wants both I-League and ISL to run simultaneously, given that it is the only viable option now.
