The 2016-17 edition of the Federation Cup will be returning to its original format, where teams will square off against each other at a neutral venue selected by the All India Football Federation(AIFF).

The 10 teams will be divided into two groups, with the top two teams advancing to the semi-finals of the tournament.

AIFF are still on the lookout for the venue to host the Federation Cup this year. With the major football stadiums in India being renovated for the U-17 World Cup later this year, AIFF's options are limited.

According to a few reports, Guwahati or Shillong might be selected as the venue for this year's Federation Cup.

Last year the Federation Cup was played in a home and away format, with the final being, played at a neutral venue. Mohun Bagan lifted the trophy hammering Aizawl FC 5-0.
