Indian Super League side FC Goa are eyeing a tie-up with Portugal's most successful and popular club Sport Lisboa e Benfica, according to a report in a popular National Daily.

FC Goa, which had the legendary Zico as their coach for the first three season of the ISL are looking for a meaningful collaboration with a European club with youth development being the prime focus.

FC Goa president Akshay Tandon along with other club officials recently visited several clubs in Europe which include Benfica, Manchester City and Athletic Bilbao in Spain. However, it was Benfica who caught the attention of Mr. Tandon as he was particularly impressed with Benfica's consistency in producing top notch talents.

Recently the Benfica Academy have produced talents like Renato Sanches (Bayern Munich), Andre Gomes (Barcelona), Bernardo Silva (Monaco) and various others.

"We are in talks with a few clubs from Europe and Benfica is one of them. The conversations are at a preliminary stage, so it is premature to comment any further. But we look forward to engaging in more meaningful discussions over the upcoming months," said FC Goa president.

Benfica has also expressed their desire in working with FC Goa. Club president Luis Filipe Vieira and CEO Lorenzo Pereira will likely be flying all the way down to Goa to meet FC Goa officials in the coming days.
