East Bengal Appoint Mridul Banerjee as Interim Coach
Kingfisher East Bengal have appointed Santosh trophy winning coach Mridul Banerjee as the interim coach for the rest of the season.
Mridul, who is not only from the city of Kolkata himself but is also well-aware about the ins and outs of the Maidan teams, has been selected to replace the outgoing Trevor James Morgan for his easy availability and the “A” license that he holds as a coaching degree.
A technical committee, which consists of club legends like Manoranjan Bhattacharya, Bhaskar Gangopadhay and Tushar Rakshit, had been tasked to appoint the next coach following the debacle related to Morgan’s tenure in charge of the Red and Gold brigade.
They have finalized the name, and the former Mohammedan SC gaffer has already taken charge of proceedings. In fact, he has even met the team and the top brass and has watched the team practice today morning.
East Bengal plays Minerva Punjab next, and with hopes of winning the league all but gone, they must try to focus on the upcoming Federation Cup. It will be interesting to see how the new gaffer goes about in motivating a broken team and bridging the gaps between the players and the fans.
