DSK Shivajians vs Chennai City FC Preview : Pune Side Look To Open Account Against New Comers

Tuesday, 17 January 2017|Sarthak Mondal

After gaining just 1 point from their last 5 competitive fixtures, DSK Shivajians would look to finally open their points tally when they face new comers, Chennai City FC at the Balewadi Stadium in Pune on Tuesday.

A lacklustre display in the first match against State rivals, Mumbai FC, followed by their inability to hold Kolkata giants, East Bengal means the corporate outfit managed by DSK Group representing Pune has nothing to show on the table after two games.

Chennai City FC are on the same page as DSK Shivajians and they have failed to impress in both their games so far. However they managed to salvage a point from the game against Minerva Punjab FC in the opening round, before going down to Bengaluru FC by two goals to nil.

Travelling : The side from the southern part of India has been on the road after the opening round. They flew over the short distance from Bengaluru to Pune on Sunday. While for the home side, they didn’t have to endure any travel as they hosted East Bengal in their last match.

Morale of the Team : The mood in both the camps are slightly on the negative side as both are yet to register a win. The players and management of DSK Shivajians have likely forgotten the last time they have won a match as its almost a year ago against Sporting Club de Goa. Since then they have drawn 3 games before losing 4 back to back matches going into this game.

Chennai City FC, on the other hand, are playing in the I-League for the first time and one can only expect them to get better as they play more games. But there should not be any excuses of the unattractive brand of football they have played in the last two rounds.

Preparations : DSK Shivajians have appointed a new manager this season in Dave Rogers but the demons of dropping points and losing matches are far from over. The team management will definitely be hoping for a turnaround in this game hoping that the experienced campaigners in Gouramangi, Nirmal Chhetri and Sanju Pradhan will step up.
In the pre-match press conference, Rogers has expressed his views on the game.

“Tomorrow is another big game, and there are no easy games in the league as I have said before. We are looking forward to it and welcoming Chennai City FC to the Balewadi. We are disappointed with the two results we have had. We are building each block from the bottom, one step at a time. Results may be are not going our way, but I know with the players we have, and the confidence these players we have, we can turn the work on the training pitch to the field.”
Shivajians’ Irish recruit, Shane McFaul has expressed his positivity on the performance of his team so far in the campaign.

“We have played well in both the matches. We will take the positive from the matches, work hard every single day and we will be looking to put that right tomorrow.”

Playing an away game is always difficult and Chennai City are definitely going through a tough phase as they are playing two back to back away matches in their first three games ever in the I-League. They have barely got a chance to acclimatise to the conditions with 2 practice sessions in Pune but when you are a professional, you cannot give such excuses.

Chennai City FC’s coach Robin Charles Raja has mentioned that there is a lot of positive vibes among the players in the camp and he is optimistic about getting full points from tomorrow’smatch. “We want to play a positive football. Even though we were defensive against Bengaluru FC, we intent on playing positive football. Since we were pushed into the water, we have to swim. We want to be safe. The journey back to the Hero I-League has been quick. But we have adapted to it well. We have to put the players of Tamil Nadu on the national map and most of the players are locally based and also the foreign players are based in our state”, quoted Raja on being asked how the team is coping with the results.

There are no suspensions for either teams going into this match, but expect DSK to rotate the squad a bit in order to find the right combination. Chennai City FC on the other hand may go into the match with one change, slotting back Haroon Amiri for Prasanth Karutha Dathkhuni.

Given the quality of football displayed by the two sides over the last two rounds, we do not expect another lacklustre display by the teams in this game. Chennai City FC have played well in patches but the positivity in the final third is missing which have prevented them from scoring goals so far.

DSK Shivajians have scored only once in two matches this season, courtesy their defender Gouramangi Singh and will have the upper hand going into this game, because of their experience in the I-League and back to back home games, which reduces their fatigue factor compared to their counterparts.

Predicted Line Up :

The match will kick-off at 7.05 PM IST at the Balewadi Stadium in Pune and will be aired live on Ten 2.
