DSK Shivajians Likely To Pull Out From The I-League

Wednesday, 14 June 2017

Pune outfit DSK Shivajians are considering pulling out of the I-League and closing first team operations, having enjoyed 2 seasons in the top division. If DSK does pull out, they will be the first I-League team to do so ahead of the 2017-18 season.

It is understood that the main reason behind the closing down is financial instability even though the club's sources are citing logistical issues cropping up due to parallel leagues.

A source close to the team revealed that DSK were literally struggling financially since last season and has not paid some of their players' salaries since February.

DSK finished 7th in the I-League 2016-17 season with 18 points from the same number of games.

The AIFF has also failed to come up with a proper league structure that would allow the I-League clubs to sustain operations in the long run, which has already resulted in a number of clubs like Royal Wahingdoh, Salgaocar, Pune FC, Bharat FC, Sporting Club De Goa pulling out of the I-League. DSK is about to be the latest addition to that list.

Apart from DSK, Goan powerhouse Churchill Brothers are also considering closing first team operations mainly due to AIFF's negligence shown towards I-League clubs and the lack of a proper roadmap.
