Churchill Brothers vs East Bengal Preview: Alfred Fernandes Desperate For 3 Points

Wednesday, 18 January 2017|Abhranil Roy

Churchill Brothers will be looking to open their account when they host East Bengal at the Tilak Maidan in Goa in the third round of the I-League on Wednesday.

However, judging by the quality difference between the two sides, it will be humongous task for the home side to beat Trevor Morgan's side, who are challenging for the title.

Previous Games: The Red Machines have lost both their opening fixtures, and conceded late in the last one versus Mumbai FC to lose 2-1. East Bengal, on the other hand clinched a hard-fought victory against DSK Shivajians, where goals from Wedson and Plaza helped them register a 2-1 victory.

Traveling: East Bengal flew over to Goa from Pune on the 15th of Jan, the day after playing DSK Shivajians. It has taken them just over an hour to fly into the neighbouring state.

While for Churchill Brothers, they didn't have to do any travelling as they played their last round match at home, having hosted Mumbai FC.

Team Morale: While the Red and Gold brigade will be in a cheery mood following a morale-boosting win over DSK Shivajians thanks to a late winner, the home side suffered an injury time goal against Mumbai FC to drop all 3 points. That must have badly hurt them.

"There is room for improvement and do better as the league goes on. The boys are motivated to play the attacking game and are looking to win tomorrow against Churchill Brothers whose morale is a bit down after their two consecutive defeats. I expect a good contest and hopefully, our boys will give their best and win tomorrow," said Morgan in the pre-match conference.

His counterpart, assistant manager Alfred Fernandes had the following to offer, "I am happy the way the team played in the last matches expect for the finishing which has let us down and tomorrow I hope Anthony Wolfe to get his act right in front of the goal”.

Having landed in Goa on the 15th afternoon, East Bengal have had the opportunity to get the feel of Goa with the two practice session they had.

Morgan being a methodical coach, he must have noticed that the right side is an area of concern for East Bengal, given Poojary and Bheke’s poor form. He must have worked on to bridge the weak-link.

While for the home team, coach Alfred is still looking for the right balance. They are still waiting for their foreigners to arrive, barring Anton Wolfe, who was below his usual self in the last match. They are really practicing hard but with most of the boys coming into the I-League after having missed for a season or two, it will still take them time to hit their peak form soon.
