In a sweet reunion of sorts, veteran striker Yakubu Yusif is set to return to Churchill Brothers after 16 long years. The Goan outfit are eager to get back their former star forward for the Goa Pro League, although, at 40 years of age, his fitness might be an issue.

The Ghanaian centre-forward first came to the family club in 2001 and scored 18 goals in his debut season. He narrowly missed out winning the National league title to Mohun Bagan that season, but since then has won everything there is to win domestically in the country. Considered as one of the finest foreign imports in Indian football, Yakubu has also played for East Bengal, Salgaocar and Mumbai FC but it is his time at Mahindra United that will be remembered the most. The side won the NFL and Federation Cup double, and the striker took a central stage in the proceedings.

Club owner Churchill Alamao, while speaking to representatives from Times Of India said, "We will have Yakubu for the Goa Pro League. Let’s see his fitness and then we can take a call on the I-League. If fit, there is no doubt that Yakubu can be an asset."

Needless to say, if he is fit, Churchill will also look to exploit the experience of the veteran in the I-league, in which they are the only side participating from Goa.

The Goa Pro League starts from 1st September and will have 12 teams partaking in it.
