Churchill Brothers Appoint Derrick Pereira As Their Head Coach
Churchill Brothers have roped in the services of veteran manager Derrick Pereira, as has been reported by several sources both inside and outside the club.
The Goan outfit, who are currently rock bottom in the league standings, having garnered a meagre 6 points so far, were awaiting the return of their Nigerian manager Joseph Afusi. However, problems with his visa did not allow the move to materialize, so the Alemao family went on to appoint an experienced campaigner in the form of Derrick to get them out of the relegation scrap.
However, this is just an unofficial appointment and has to be ratified by the All India Football Federation now. While speaking to Goal.com, the former Salgaocar player and manager said, “ I got a call yesterday () to find out if I am interested or not. I chatted with them today ( ) about what they wanted to do with the club and then we decided we start from ( ).”
Alfred Fernandes, who was the interim manager will now be the 54-year-old Goan’s assistant and is looking forward to work with an old friend again. Their first challenge will be to avoid the drop this season, and with just 9 rounds to go and six points in their kitty, it already looks like a significant one.
