Chennai City FC & Robin Charles Raja Part Ways

Chennai City FC have decided to part ways with their old-time coach Robin Charles Raja following their disastrous start to the I-League, can confirm.

The management have also asked some of its staff not to come to the office.

An official of the club informed on condition of anonymity that, “Yes, Robin has been sacked and the reason cited is being poor results.”

He also informed, “Some of the staffs including me has been asked not to come to the office. I don’t know the reason yet but looks like some organisation is going to manage the whole Team Affairs.”

At the start of the I-League, when the management decided to continue with Robin, it raised some eyebrows as the AFC A coach had no prior experience to top level football. But having taken the team to many glories at the local level, the trust was put on him but looks like he couldn’t live up to the expectation of the management (read owner).

However, it is also worth considering that Robin got less than a month to put together the team after the All India Football Federation confirmed their bid along with Minerva Punjab FC.

They started their I-League campaign with a goalless draw against Minerva Punjab before embarking on a three-match losing streak against Bengaluru FC, DSK Shivajians and Mohun Bagan.

They did bounce back with a victory over the rampaging Aizawl FC at home but went on the slump against East Bengal and Shillong Lajong FC.

In the 7 games that Chennai City FC has played under Robin, they have amassed just 4 points, scoring only 3 goals while conceding 11.
