Beach Soccer is coming to Kolkata at the end of this year and the excitement around the city is quite elevated. Beach Sports Association conducted a press release yesterday in Kolkata Press Club, where the official logo and the mascot for the League were unveiled yesterday. Both the logo and the mascot were made by the Guinness World Record and Limca Book of Records winner Subhadeep Chatterjee.

The name of the Mascot is "B". Obviously, the name has its own significance. After a lot of speculations, the name was finalized. According to Mr. Mitra, the name "B" stands for Beach as well as it initializes the word Bengal, even not only that it also stands for Ball. So the name was very well appreciated by the whole crowd.

Mr. Madan Mitra, Patron of the League and former sports minister of the Government of West Bengal, was the main attraction of the press conference, along with the Brand Ambassador and honorable MP Arjuna Awardee Mr. Prasun Banerjee.

About the tournament, Mr. Mitra said, “After the Under-17 World Cup, we decided to extend the celebration of the game. With full support from our Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, we thought about the beach soccer in the picturesque beaches of Tajpur. Initially, Goa was also in consideration, but our infrastructure is in far better condition. It’s a team effort and we are trying our best to make this a grand success.”

Brand Ambassador Mr. Pasun Banerjee seemed really excited about this whole concept. According to him, it'll bring a fresh wind among the regular mainstream crowd. As well as the whole concept will help the up bringing of Indian Football.

Prasun Banerjee said, “This is a very much appreciated initiative. I am honored to be a part of it. This tournament is not just about the big names in football, it will create a certain amount of curiosity in the youth and they will love it. We are already hosting the World Cup final in our city, and with this tournament, Kolkata will be proud. I want to congratulate everyone associated with this project and wish my best.”

The working president, Mr. Arijit Mukherjee was quite optimistic as always through out the whole Conference as he is the king pin of this whole concept according to Mr. Mitra.

“Beach Soccer is not well known in India. Although there was a tournament initiative in Goa in 2014, then it was not taken forward. The game is played, but it is not very serious. We want to make Beach Sports popular. I’m starting with soccer. Then there is a plan to launch beach volleyball, handball, dodge ball,” he said.

When asked about the involvement of the two local teams, he said, “When we first went to Tajpur, locals claimed that Mohun Bagan and East Bengal should be kept in this tournament. We have included East Bengal Masters and Mohun Bagan Masters as per their demand. Overall, we are trying to create a package. ”

The tournament is slated to take place in between November 3-6 in Tajpur, East Midnapore. Several international teams, along with three special teams from East Bengal, Mohun Bagan and Mohammedan Sporting are taking part in this four days long festival. Famous names in Beach Soccer like Bruno Malias, Francis Farberoff, Oscar Gil El Toro are all coming to the city to play.

So let’s get ready to be bedazzled by the new wave of excitement! Let’s take a glimpse of this whole different journey. It’s going to be a welcome change in our otherwise ‘normal’ obsession with the game called Football.
