For 13 long years, East Bengal have failed to get their hands on the I-League trophy but East Bengal’s star defender Arnab Mondal believes they can end the curse the next season. With a host of new signings and a new manager as well, the India International is focused on the upcoming campaign.

Echoing the sentiments of Khalid Jamil, Arnab said,”We all know how Leicester City won the EPL a few years back. Football is evolving, and only those who work hard and stay fit for the entire season will win the league.”

Speaking about the new recruits, he said they would need some time to adapt to the conditions in Kolkata, especially the wet and muddy turf during monsoon. He also accepted that the seniors in the squad like Gurwinder Singh, Rafique and he himself would have to take the responsibility of guiding them.

The former Atletico de Kolkata centre-back reiterated his faith in the coach and said that the players will have no problems in adapting to his methods. The fact that some of the new signings are already aware of Khalid’s game plans and tactics would serve as an added advantage according to Arnab.

In other news, Syrian midfielder Al-Amna is expected to land in Kolkata on Friday and will join practice from Saturday.
