Aizawl FC Boss Khalid Jamil Praises Side For Impressive Win

Tuesday, 21 February 2017|John Zothansanga

Aizawl FC manager Khalid Jamil praised his players for stepping up to the challenge, beating East Bengal 1-0 to open up the title race. R. Laldanmawia 58th minute strike helped Aizawl FC close the gap with the Kolkata club to just one point.

A delighted Khalid Jamil exclaimed, “The atmosphere was very intense but we deserved to win. My players always give their best shot and I am very happy with that. There is a willingness to win every match. We keep fighting and we extract what we deserve,"

"I am not looking for any credit for the win. I am very happy with my players, they know how pleased I am with their work and I would like to dedicate this win to them. They deserved this win. Danmawia really works hard, and he deserved to score the goal," he added.

When asked about the performance of Ivorian striker Kamo Stephane Bayi, Khalid stood by his foreign striker, "I have to make the best use of what I have got. When the players make an effort, there is nothing more you can ask and that is what Kamo is doing. He is also improving match by match ."

The People's club now might trail East Bengal with only one point, but the gaffer decided to brush away the title talks. "It is too early to talk about the title. I don't want to think about anything else, all I have got in my mind right now is the next match against Chennai City," he said.

Aizawl FC were without the services of injured Ashutosh Mehta and Albert Zohmingmawia but the AFC gaffer at the post-match conference said his two players will be ready to put their boots on when they will host Chennai City FC on February 25.

East Bengal coach Trevor Morgan also acknowledged the fact that Aizawl FC deserved to win. "The better team won today. Just because we are a bigger team doesn’t mean we will win every match. To get three points we need to play better than our opponents which we didn't do today. If only five out of your 11 players played according to your plan, then you deserve to lose," he said.
