Brandon Vanlalremdika struck an 89th minute goal to bring back Aizawl FC to their winning ways with a 1-0 win over DSK Shivajians in the 6th round of the I-League 2016-17.

The 23-Year-old came on as a Substitute in the hour mark and took the half-chance that came his way to give his side their 4th win of the season.

The match started at a brisk pace, with both the teams eager to take the lead. But as the match progressed, things slowed down and it looked like both the teams were more concerned on not losing points.

DSK Shivajians however were the first to create a scoring opportunity when they missed a free-kick from the 40 Yards.

Couple of minutes later, Ashutosh Mehta got into action and sent an excellent through ball for R. Laldanmawia, who dribbled past a defender before shooting it way outside the target. Ashutosh’s striking cross also got blocked by the away defence a minute later.

Aizawl FC continued to pile up the pressure and it was RB Lalruatthara’s chance to attack. He ran up the right flank beating couple of defenders to take a thunderous shot which was never to bother the former Aizawl FC GK, Poirei Soram, who was guarding the DSK goal this time.

In the 15th minute of the match, the home side suffered a big setback when influential midfielder Al-Amna had to be stretched out because of an injury.

DSK did managed to create couple of half-hearted chances before the game became a midfield battle with both the teams slowing down. Till the HT, neither of the team created any more chances and the match went into the break with the deadlock intact.

The second half did not offer much goal mouth action either and was concentrated in the midfield for the majority of the time. In the 79th minute, Seita Singh’s dramatic effort to score was brilliantly blocked by goalkeeper Albino Gomes.

The home side surprisingly upped their tempo toward the end, seeking for a goal and it paid off in the 89th minute when Brandon scored the goal. It was after he failed to convert an inch perfect cross from Lalmuankima in the 83rd minute.

The win takes Aizawl FC to 13 points from 6 matches.
