It has emerged that the All India Football Federation will be imposing a hefty fine on Indian Super League outfit Atletico de Kolkata for breaking league rules.

In an unexpected turn of events, the defending champions are certain to be penalized for failing to respond to a letter sent by the governing body.  It has transpired that ATK were being repeatedly asked to clear their dues in an incident related to the ISL last year. Juan Belencosa, one of their players was punished by the AIFF due to an on-field incident, and the outfit was asked to share the burden of the required fine. However, they have failed to respond to the letter so far, and hence are likely to face sanctions. When contacted by leading Bengali daily Anandabazar Patrika, ATK secretary Subrata Talukdar said, “ I am currently in Europe and I have been out of the country since 15th February. I was not at all aware that the AIFF has imposed a fine on us but it is impossible for me to return to India and solve the issue right away. I will ask my people to look into it.”

AIFF officials have also been taken aback by the unprofessional attitude of the two-time ISL winners which is highly irregular of them, and are certain that they will suffer massively because of it. It seems that once the deadline is past, which is till the midnight of 2nd of March, they franchise will be deemed guilty of overlooking instructions from the governing body repeatedly and may face restrictions on the number of overseas players they will be able to sign for the next edition of the ISL.
