AFC Cup Qualifier : Colombo FC Foreigners Granted Visa

Tuesday, 7 February 2017|Abhishek Mukherjee

The Indian High Commission in Colombo provided a major boost to Colombo SC's fortunes by granting visas to all three of their foreign players, Nasiru Opayemi, Afis Olayemi Olofin and Momas Yapo. All the three players will be joining the squad tomorrow morning ahead of their second leg of the AFC Cup preliminary round qualifier against Mohun Bagan.

The reversal of fortune came days after the trio were denied a visa to travel to India. As a result, the team from Colombo had to travel without their three key players.

Now that the issue is resolved, the three foreign recruits are expected to reach Kolkata at 11 am in the morning -just hours before the match- along with their owner Saif Yusoof. “The Boys are now flying with me on a 3.00 am flight via Bangalore and will reach Kolkata at 11.00 am for the match in the evening,” an ecstatic Yusoof told ThePapare.com.

Head Coach of Colombo FC Mohamed Roomy will now have to alter his game plan going into today's match, something which he won't mind. However, he will be analyzing the fitness of his foreign recruits before the game as the trio will have just 4-5 hours of rest before the game. “I will have to test their (three foreigners) fitness before the match given that they will be arriving only a few hours before the match,” Mohamed Roomy said top ThePapare.com.

The other good news for the Sri Lankan side is that their captain Mohamed Rawme Mohideen is fit for tomorrow's game after missing out on the first leg owing to injuries.

The match is slated to start at 7 pm IST.
