The ongoing Abinash Ruidas transfer saga, which has been the subject of controversy for the past month or so, experienced a new twist on Monday after the player requested East Bengal to provide him with an NOC.

In a letter of gratitude, Abinash thanked East Bengal for providing him with the platform to grow as a footballer and have appealed them to provide him with the NOC required to join ISL outfit t Mumbai City FC.

The development was confirmed by a East Bengal official who added that the decision regarding Abinash’s future will be decided by the club’s executive committee.

Earlier, East Bengal had claimed that Ruidas was contracted to the club until the end of the 2018-19 season, while Ruidas asserted that he was a free agent and that his signature was forged by East Bengal. Ruidas also made himself available in the ISL draft where he was eventually picked up by MCFC for 18lacs.

Hence, in a bid to break the deadlock, AIFF appointed a special seven member committee to verify the status of the player, which would pass a verdict on Tuesday regarding Abinash’s status.

However, with Ruidas waving the white flag from his end, things have taken an interesting turn as the ball is now in East Bengal’s court.
