Southern Samity picked up a narrow 1-0 win against LoneStar Kashmir FC at the Barasat Stadium in Kolkata on Thursday to stay afloat in the quest for an I-League berth.

Shaikhom Ronald Singh scored the only goal of the match in the 58th minute.

However, the match wasn't sans controversy. LoneStar almost pulled a goal back through second-half substitute Faisal Wangnoo but the referee disallowed it. LoneStar players protested that the ball had crossed the line but the referee waved away the protests.

LoneStar tried to restore parity late in the game, but failed to open up the Southern defence.

The win puts Southern in the top of the pile along with Neroca and Delhi United. All the three teams are locked on 4 points from 2 matches. On the flip side, Kashmir FC are at the 5th spot with 1 point from 2 matches.
